Flyfishing
The farm has over 2 kilometres of river, stocked with both rainbow and brown trout, presenting guests with abundant natural runs and pools to fish with both wet and dry flies. Whilst perennial the river flows throughout the year and offers some excellent fishing and an opportunity to catch an elusive brown (only CAR). We do have a bag limit per person per day but all fishing is included in the stay.
Activities
This is flyfishing country and whilst spending your days conjuring up ways to lure a wiley trout to your fly is most likely a key objective of your stay at the farm it is by no means the only activity you can partake in. The farm has several running and walking trails, spots to have a family picnic and for those more adventurous a walk up the mountain to the old Boer War ruins.
An opportunity for birding and some game encounters on your walks, which include the Rhebok and Reedbuck.
The farm borders the Sterkspruit Nature Reserve which can also be accessed with prior approval.

LOCATION
WITH IT'S BREATHTAKING SCENERY, LYDENBURG IS ONE OF THE JEWELS OF MPUMALANGA’S TOURISM INDUSTRY
Marabou Trout Farm is about 3,5 to 4 hours drive from Johannesburg / Pretoria and situated 7.5 kilometres from the town of Lydenburg in Mpumalanga, South Africa. A recommended stop en-route to Lydenburg is the quaint town of Dullstroom which is renowned for a variety of shops and restaurants to have lunch or just to stretch your legs of buy last-minute flies, leader etc at Mavungana Flyshing (just as you get into town). A personal favourite and recommendation is Mrs Simpsons Restaurant - the food never ceases to amaze. From Dullstroom you have about 45 mins drive to the lodge.
Please note that there are potholes along this stretch and taking it slow and carefully is highly recommended. The last stretch of load from Lydenburg to the lodge is on a dirt road but accessible for all vehicles.
